The Seven Principles of Leave No Trace

The Seven Principles of Leave No Trace

We are committed to educating our guides and climbers about Leave No Trace principles. All RMI guides must hold at least a Leave No Trace Level 1 Instructor certification, and as part of our onboarding process, newly hired guides receive Leave No Trace Level 2 Instructor training and certification. The Seven Principles of Leave No Trace are consistently taught and practiced throughout every program.

On Mt. Rainier, RMI guides contribute 40 volunteer days of Environmental Patrols each season to clean trash and debris from the climbing routes. For our Denali programs, an LNT Level 2 Instructor is staffed on every program, and Clean Mountain Cans (CMCs) are utilized to carry all solid human waste off the mountain. Furthermore, in planning and packing for our programs, we strive to reduce single-use plastics by purchasing products in bulk and repackaging items.

We invite you to explore the Seven Principles through the videos below and discover how you can Leave No Trace on your next adventure, whether it's close to home or across the ocean.

Please Note: The Principle of Travel and Camp on Durable Surfaces have been split into two videos.
