Mt. McKinley: Beren & Team Making Progress on Their Descent

June 22, 2014 - 2:46 am PT What a great day in the mountains yesterday! I'd reckon we had one of the nicest summit opportunities of the season and it was a real treat to be in position to make the most of it. We topped out on Denali with spectacular views in all directions and made it back to camp with as close to a solstice as you can get. The sun was still in the sky for an amazing sunset as we pulled into camp after a job well and safely done. Nice work everyone! This morning weather rolled in from many directions and we chose to stall a bit before heading down the Buttress. The blowing snow let up a little in the afternoon and we made the most if it, getting down to 14K Camp and having dinner before some shut eye. Tomorrow we will keep the momentum rolling downhill if the weather allows and get just a little closer to coming home. RMI Guide Jake Beren

Mt. McKinley: Beren & Team Reach the Summit!

June 20, 2014 - 10:16 pm PT Hello, this is Jake calling from the summit of Denali with our crew. Everyone did a wonderful job today and I'm super proud of how everyone kept it together. We had a little flurry of conditions in the morning and then had just about the most beautiful day you could imagine on top. Thanks to everybody back home for the support. And now we are gonna get down to the business of getting down, so we will call when we get back to camp and look forward to seeing everybody soon, alright. Bye. June 21, 2014 - 2:54 am PT Hello, this is Leon, Katie and Jake just calling in to let everybody know that most of us are asleep back at camp. The rest of us who are not will be shortly. A beautiful climb and we will touch base on our way out of here. Good night. RMI Guide Jake Beren

Mt. McKinley: Beren & Team Hope to Move Up the Mountian

June 18, 2014 - 3:42pm PT Hello again from 14k camp! Today we are taking a well-earned break to recharge both ourselves and our electronics before hopefully heading uphill tomorrow. Yesterday we took a quick trip up to the top of the fixed lines to work the kinks out of our systems and get in some acclimatization. The crew was treated to their first views of Mt. Hunter and Mt. Foraker poking out through the clouds, and everyone performed admirably on both the ascent and descent of the fixed lines. Looking forward, we have a tentatively favorable forecast for the next few days. We hope to make a push uphill tomorrow pending the weather, but in the meantime, we are doing our best today to rest and eat lots of food in preparation for the work ahead! Cheers, RMI Guide Katie Bono & Team

It all sounds good.  Back here the mosquitoes are gone—drowned by the record breaking rainfalls.  Good luck, have fun—you’re all amazing!

Chris, Hope all is well and the weather stays clear for you and the team to move up the mountain. Praying for a safe journey for all.  We are so excited for you. Love mom

Mt. McKinley: Beren & Team Rest & Train

June 16, 2014 11:31pm PT Happy Monday from all us sinners up here at 14 Camp! Today we rested and trained for our foray up the fixed lines. After a bit of afternoon rest we then spent some time fortifying camp. It's been great up here so far and we are lucky to be surrounded by the other RMI teams. Everyone had been super hospitable and helpful getting settled in. If the weather allows, we will try a mission to the top of the fixed lines. If not, a day of rest sure wouldn't hurt. That's all from 14! RMI Guide Jake Beren & Team

Mt. McKinley Expedition: Beren and Team Move to 14,000’ Camp

June 15, 2014 - 11:57 pm PT We celebrated Father's Day on Mt. McKinley with a move from 11 Camp to 14 Camp. The team did a super solid job getting up here with enough gas to build a good camp just before the weather came in. It sure feels good to be in position to move a bit higher after a day of rest and training tomorrow. Now it's off to bed to enjoy a good night's rest after a big day in the mountains. Thanks to all the Poppas out there, we love you. RMI Guide Jake Beren

Mt. McKinley: Beren & Team Rest Day Day at 11K Camp

June 14, 2014 - 11:34 pm PT Today our team enjoyed a well earned rest day here at 11 Camp. Over a leisurely breakfast we took some time and shared the blog responses. Everyone loved hearing from friends and family back home, thanks for the love everyone! After breakfast we got down to the real business, napping and building an awesome snowman. All in all a productive day in the mountains. Tomorrow if the weather holds we'll try and move to 14 Camp. George would like to wish Elaine a Happy Birthday and Jessica a big congrats on her graduation. The team thanks them for letting us have him today. "Hi umma, sarangtie, muattelatte." Mt. McKinley: Beren & Team Carry Day

June 14, 2014 - 10:37 am PT Despite a marginal forecast, we awoke to perfectly workable conditions. Packing up our cacheables, we busted moves up the hills Motorcycle and Squirrel to get to the Polo Fields. There it began to snow lightly but never got too bad and we were able to make it all the way to Mt. McKinley's 14K Camp in great style. At 14K, we ran into our friends on the other RMI teams and always great to see some friendly faces in such a wild zone. Tomorrow we plan to rest up and move as soon as the weather allows. Mt. McKinley: Beren & Team Move to 11,200’

June 12, 2014 10:22am PT Yesterday was a great day. After a few storm days at the base of ski hill, the weather let us leave camp. Waking early we set off in good walking temps but no visibility for higher on glacier. The snow was deep and as the first team to make the move, we enjoyed breaking trail for a few hours before the skies cleared and a descending team provided a nicely broken trail. The views were spectacular and honestly the clearest of the whole trip. The team put in a big day yesterday and are enjoying a leisurely morning here at 11,200 before back carrying later today to pick up our cache at 9700. RMI Guide Jake Beren & Team

Mt. McKinley: Beren & Team Continue to Wait For Better Weather

June 10, 2014 - 10:33 pm PT Can you guess where we are? Yes, 7,800' camp on Mt. McKinley. The snows continue to blow up glacier and keep us from advancing higher on the mountain. The team is doing a fantastic job staying dug out and keeping spirits high. We have plenty of food and fuel, we just need to the weather to allow us to go a little higher. It will and all we need is a little patience. Wish us luck. RMI Guide Jake Beren
