Ama Dablam: Elias & Team Reach Camp 1 on Kyajo Ri

Good evening again from Camp 1 of Kyajo Ri! We made the move under incredible weather today, and our camp by the lake at the toe of the glacier is worth a trip to the Himalaya by itself. We're in a good position, and we'll continue to make progress tomorrow, so stay tuned! RMI Guide Elías de Andres Martos

Ama Dablam: Elias & Team Reach Kyajo Ri Base Camp

Good evening from Kyajo Ri Base! We made our move from the village of Khumjung this morning uneventful. Beautiful day indeed witnessing some of the towering peaks nearby getting just a little smaller. The beautiful meadow where we are is enclosed under steep granite walls, and while the views are short, they sure provide a sense of greatness above us. My colleague, Sherpa guide Lopsang added to the mysticism of the night by burning some juniper as an offer to the God that might inhabit Kyajo Ri; with His blessings, we will go to sleep in hopes He grants us passage tomorrow into the higher grounds of Camp 1. Ama Dablam: Elias & Team Spend an Extra Rest Day at Khumjung

Namaste from Khumjung. We are taking an extra day here, based on the wind forecast for the next few days. This way we don't find ourselves up high on Kyajo Ri in a bad spot. We did, regardless, go for a walk towards the pass that will take us tomorrow towards base camp; a nice way to spend the morning and continue to let the body work acclimatizing. A local momo feast (local Nepali dumpling) near our lodge wrapped up the morning, and we chilled for the rest of the day. Hopefully the excitement of the actual climb starts in a few hours! Ama Dablam: Elias & Team Ready for Kyajo Ri

Namaste from Khumjung! We are taking a rest day today in this beautiful village, with a true local feel and direct views of Ama Dablam. After arriving yesterday from Thame, we officially finished our trekking around Gokyo, and our minds are no set to climbing mode. We're spending the day chilling, prepacking, and reviewing a few things before heading up tomorrow towards Kyajo Ri. Stay tuned for our progress up the first of our climbing objectives! Ama Dablam: Elias & Team Trek to 5,000 meters, Ready to Start Their Climb

Another great day in the mountains! We reached for the second time the altitude of 5000 meters in our acclimatizing trek, going over Renjo Pass. The views from the top of 4 of the 6 tallest mountains in the world, were astonishing and motivating. Descending to Thame was energizing as the air felt thicker. We're now ready to switch gears, and start focusing on our first objective! RMI Guide Elias de Andres Martos

So excited for you all! Long awaited day has finally arrived!

Ama Dablam: Elias & Team Trek to the Base of Cho Oyu

Good evening! What a day we had... We trekked to the base of Cho Oyu, where the seldom expeditions that climb is south side set their Base Camp. Man we felt small! We also had the best views that any trekker can have of Everest and Lhotse together (without climbing any peak) from any trail in the Khumbu Region. But we had to work hard, as this was the team's first day above 5000m. An uneventful return, and we were enjoying a nice dinner at our lodge by the shore of Gokyo Lake. We're headed to bed, as another long day awaits tomorrow. Stay tuned! RMI Guide Elias de Andres Martos

What a beautiful photo. Very excited for you all and your continued forward (and upward) progress!
“Long, blue, spiky-edged shadows crept out across the snow-fields, while a rosy glow, at first scarce discernible, gradually deepened and suffused every mountain-top, flushing the glaciers and the harsh crags above them. This was the alpenglow, to me the most impressive of all the terrestrial manifestations of God. At the touch of this divine light, the mountains seemed to kindle to a rapt, religious consciousness, and stood hushed like devout worshippers waiting to be blessed.”

Ama Dablam: Elias & Team Arrive in Gokyo Village

Namaste! Another great day of terrible weather and awful landscapes... Just kidding. We are having an incredible time, as everyone's physiology is adapting seamlessly to the altitude of the Himalaya, and that allows for a better enjoyment of the trail, the views and cultural experience. We just arrived to our lodge in Gokyo at 4800m, and next to the Dudh Pokhari, a turquoise lake that bears the same name, and with Cho Oyu in the distance, the sixth tallest mountain of the world, a magical stay is guaranteed. That's all for now! RMI Guide Elías de Andres Martos and team

Ama Dablam: Elias & Team Leave Namche, Enjoy the Views

Hello again! Here we are, just below 14,000' and everyone is feeling like a million roses. We left Namche and got a step further up the hill under the best weather possible. The mountains continued to provide jaw dropping views at every corner, and having Ama Dablam on sight for most of the day was rather motivating. Yak caravans and rhododendron forests added a touch of authenticity to the Himalayan experience we're having. Tomorrow we'll continue up, towards Gokyo, acclimatizing and kicking butt! Proud of you all!

Ama Dablam: Elias & Team Enjoy Day in Namche

Greetings from Namche again! We enjoyed a good day here, acclimatizing, eating local food, and taking a stroll to greet our main objective, Ama Dablam, who towers in the distance from an incredible overlook above town. The skies were blue, and Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse and Tamserku were also out for us. The climbers are doing great, and we're all pretty motivated, excited and determined to nail this, the first stage of our trip by hiking around Gokyo in Style. Tomorrow we depart uphill again, so stay in the loop! RMI Guide Elías de Andres Martos and team.

Ama Dablam: Elias & Team Arrive in Namche Bazaar

Namaste from Namche Bazaar, aka "Khumbu Central". I'm happy to report this guide is surrounded by a team of crushers, who hiked the first hill of the trail as if it was flat. We arrived way before lunch and enjoyed a good afternoon at the epicenter of Sherpa trading in this old market town of the Himalaya. Fun dinner conversations added to a great day! We'll stay here an extra night to start allowing for acclimatization. Stay tuned! RMI Guide Elias de Andres Martos
