Mt. Rainier: Teams Reach Summit!

After several days of high winds and unstable snow conditions, the RMI Teams were greeted with light winds, clear skies and good route conditions.  RMI Guides Pete Van Deventer, Dan Windham and their Four Day Climb teams reached the summit of Mt. Rainier shortly after 7 am today.  The teams enjoyed some time in the crater getting all the photo ops before descending from the crater rim.

Congratulations to today's teams!

Mt. Rainier: June 16th Update

RMI Guides Win Whittaker and Dan Windham led the Four Day Summit Climb teams to 13,500' this morning before deciding to turn around due to deteriorating weather conditions and increased winds. The teams checked in from Ingraham Flats around 7:30 a.m. on their descent as the rain continued to fall. They returned to Camp Muir to repack and hopefully dry out a bit. At 10:00 a.m. they began their descent from Camp Muir to Paradise. We look forward to seeing the groups at Rainier BaseCamp in a few hours.

Mt Rainier: Expedition Skills Seminar Technical Training at Muir

Today we are training at Camp Muir. The weather is not cooperating with our training, but we are having fun teaching and using advanced techniques for our very advanced clientele. It is very winter like here at Camp Muir a lot of snow and a lot of wind. Our last session will be navigation, and that will come in handy tomorrow getting down the Muir Snowfield. Guys had a great time, so much so I’m booking for Mexico.  I want to make sure JJ brings the fat finger ascender just for me…

We had a fantastic time learning mountaineering skills and hanging out in the hut at Camp Muir.  What a great group of clients and guides!  Thanks to JJ, Dan, Tim, Katey, and Alex for teaching us so much.  You took a newbie and got me well started on a great obsess,er,uh, hobby!  Thanks to Nick for suggesting the trip, and every body for keeping it fun.  I hope Zeek’s goose grows her feathers back in time for the next trip!
