Today our Aconcagua Team is taking a rest day at Camp 2, 18,000'. We had a cold night with light winds that blew the weather pattern of the last five days out of the area. Dark clouds and high winds plague the summit. We'll focus on eating, rest and hydration. Our plan will be to move up to High Camp up the 12th, and make our summit attempt on the 13th. We are hoping the snow firms up and we get clear weather.

Hi Team: I’m with you in spirit if not in body. My very best for your summit attempt. I’m willing those winds to lay down and the snow to sublimate away. I’m toasting you and the mountain which I can see from the vineyards here in The Valle de Lujàn de Cuyo, raising glasses of Torontés, Malbec and Cabernet Franc to you all and your climb. Salud!

Sissy says hi, she said she misses you! Can’t wait until you get back to hear all about it. Don’t eat the yellow snow. Love ya, Dad

Ascending from Camp 1 to Camp 2, an RMI-Aconcagua-guide lightened one climber’s load:
Prompts me to recall, with gratitude, the name —Al~ of the young Camp Cazadero counselor who lifted my heavy SwissArmyKnife hanging around my neck on a pink lanyard.
He’d borrow” it the rest of the way to Fort Ross, still several hot golden grassy hills away on the California Coast.
It was 1944 WorldWar II, we campers pushing on as America’s soldiers and sailors were pushing toward war’s end on a distant Pacific Coast.
Thanks again, Al Ingram
And thanks to RMI and ‘porteros’ of
Aconcagua for setting the stage for deep remembrance.

Sure appreciate the updates. We will be thinking strong hearts, legs, lungs & heads for the 13th. AND perfect weather for getting on up the big hill. Hug the Kevin for me. Dee

Hydration sounds like a great idea! It’s going to be so interesting to hear how all of this is accomplished!
And “snow firming up,” does that mean more solid to walk on or avalanche issues?
Nothing as exciting as that here! Had a couple of inches of fresh snow but still stuck with ice grippers on the trails or indoor exercise. Today Dad and I are going to walk at the Rec after work.
Thanks for the continued updates, we really look forward to them. Prayers for good health and successful first summit attempt! XOXOXO Momma & Dad
