Aconcagua: Nugent & Team Settled into Guanacos Camp

Elevation: 18,000'
Checking in from Guanacos Campo 3, or Camp 2 for us at well over 18,000'. We are moved and settled in, enjoying yet another perfect afternoon with coffee, cribbage, prosciutto, and of course, siestas. We felt the altitude before but with this most recent move higher we are all moving a bit slower and scratching our heads a bit longer when trying to figure out where that one stuff sack with our snacks went. The team is staying positive despite a tough looking weather forecast and we are hoping that Mother Nature will give us an opportunity to sneak in a trip to the top. Not much else cooking up here besides our broccoli and rice dinner...

Doug,
Man! We sure hope you guys can at least take a crack at the summit. Always in our prayers. I know I’m a day late on this post, but just know we have been actively thinking and praying for your adventure. Enjoy your time and keep that mind of yours sharp! That altitude is no match for my babers!
We love you so much and miss you lots!

Hi Randy…Well it looks like Mother Nature isn’t playing nice with you. Allison was a very happy girl yesterday. Emory had a snow day despite forecast calling for less than 1 inch starting at 7:00pm. Haha. She loved watching her guys who had never seen snow…snowball fights, snow angels and they even managed to make a small snowman. Think half the school was out playing in it late last night. Barrett called to see if I had heard from you…Judy said he’s missing you. Lots of people here cheering you on for the last challenging leg of your adventure!
Love you! Lisa

Randy,
See the team moved on to camp 3 to take advantage of the weather - smart move. The weather forecast looks like today is your day - hope all goes well on your ascent to the summit. Need to get back down before that snow storm hits. Stay smart and safe.
We love you,
Dad & Luz

Hello Dear Robbie!!
Greetings from sea level in the PNW! You are really up in the heavens now….18,000 feet!! I must say I am in awe and so happy it’s going well.
It must be getting difficult now with temps, wind and altitude. But I have no doubt in your strength and determination :)
My thoughts and prayers are with you and all your comrades for safety and advantageous weather.
Hope it’s clear enough for you to view the upcoming full moon….. I’ll be thinking of you!
Exes and Oh’s,
M.

Just a thought ... President Lyndon Johnson died on the 22 January 1973 at the age of 64. Tomorrow, the 23rd of January you turn 64 and we find you approaching the tallest peak on earth, outside the Himalayas. One would have to offer a hearty Bravo Zulu.
ps I need to borrow your truck.
