Aconcagua: Billy Nugent & Team Move Up to Camp 1

Hi all,
Billy here checking in from Aconcagua Camp 1 after a smooth move on up from basecamp. We enjoyed sunny skies and a bit of light breeze, all in all a perfect day to head up the hill. After arriving mid afternoon we took our time settling in. We had to move our cache over to our actual campsite, setup tents and get moved in. Sometime after we had set up camp the notorious Camp 1 creek began to flow. This made for a little engineering project redirecting the flow of water around our tents and with just a little bit of effort we've managed to stay dry... So far anyway. Camp is a bit crowded with several teams so good tent spots are at a premium. We just scarfed a toretellini dinner and are crawling in for the night, all of us a bit tired but no worse for the wear.
Nighty night.

Hey Rand,
Little Sis here. You are so brave and I’m so proud of you, though you couldn’t pay me to do what you WANT to do.LOL.
Here in Florida with Dad, having a great time. Weather is chilly here, 66 today. lol. PA is getting 12-15 inches tonight. So I’m in heaven. We are here for two weeks. Kids have a little school each day but we are relaxing in the afternoons. Rob is coming for the last 3 days we are here. We are going mini golfing today so the kids can keep there bragging rights of beating my pants off. lol
You are an amazing man with quite a strong will. Remember that when you are freezing your butt off. I hope your adventure brings the suffering you are looking for, along with an incredible adventure, and memories/stories for a lifetime. Don’t forget, there is bigger mountains than this to climb. haha. I love you and enjoy living vicariously through you. Hang in there. Call me when you get home.

Hi Randy…Love reading Billy’s updates. So happy to hear your move to Camp 1 went smoothly and thrilled that you are having great weather. I hope you are feeling strong and your body is acclimating well to the altitude without much discomfort. I do remember you saying it’s time to “flush out the system and do a bit of suffering”...haha. It snowed here last night so we had a school delay. Lucas is happy but our short legged girls are not too happy with the snow…guess I will do some shoveling to keep their little bellies dry. Lucas is loving welding since they started mig. Allison is back in the swing of things at school and loves her sociology class. Said she doesn’t like not talking (texting) you every day and feels like you “fell off the face of the earth”. We all miss you so much! Looks like you are in for some bumpy weather later this week. Hope it moves out quickly and doesn’t slow you down much.
Love and miss you!

Hey Babe!!
So glad to hear the weather is cooperating for you guys- I have loved reading all the updates!!
We had quite the “eventful” weekend- can’t wait to fill you in on all the craziness!! Mason def is missing his nighttime football and he thinks he wants to be an nfl referee now- he was given a whistle at a birthday party so I am sure you can imagine how quiet that is!! Bailey is always making sure we say our prayers for you, Doug, and the rest of the team- Brooklyn has officially started giggling!!
We love you and miss you lots!! So proud of you guys!!
Xoxo

Hey Rob!
Congratulations on your spectacular climb to Camp 1. Woo hoo! The girls wanted me to say hello as to make sure and come back with some good stories and pics. They’re keeping up with your progress as well. I know you’re enjoying your beautiful, rugged playground, and hope the legs and feet are feeling good. Get some much-needed rest.

Doug,
So thankful you guys are getting good weather. Can’t say the same for us. Really wet here.
Hope you’re staying dry. I’m confident your engineering skills helped in that department;)
Kids and I miss you, but we’re enjoying our slumber parties. We’re praying all the time for your energy, weather, strength and endurance. We love you, babe and are confident you’re having the time of your life…and deservingly so.
Give our love to Jake and kudos to your entire team.

Greetings Rob!
So happy to hear the climb is going smoothly with the weather cooperating thus far. I am sure it is with tremendous effort you’ve reached Camp 1…but I am confident those mighty quads of yours will take you just about anywhere!
It looks like a weather system is coming your way by the weekend with a bit of snow and some more winds ...i am praying it will quickly move on through for you and the team.
I hope you are enjoying your climb as much as I am imagining your adventure. The stars must be magnificent with the clear skies you’ve had!! Mmmmm…
Be well, be strong, and Vio con Dios ...
Lots of love being sent your way ....
xxoo, M.
