Mt. McKinley: Van Deventer & Team Rest at 17 Camp
Thursday, July 4, 2013
Whulp, the weather gods didn't smile on us today. We went to bed under clear, calm skies, and high hopes for today, but when we awoke, it was to snow, blowing snow, and wind, and next to no visibility. It wasn't a hard choice to sit tight in camp today, rest up, and hope that the next few days bring our chance! Everybody is in high spirits, albeit ancy and ready to go. Hopefully we'll check in tomorrow or Saturday from the top! Happy Fourth of July to everybody out there.

Hola Guapo,
I have to assume you are summiting since there has been no news for two days!
We are munching nervously on the rest of your Kit Kat bars…..“oh my goodness!”
Forest Gump would say: “Run Guapo Ruuuun”!
Can’t wait to hear!
Lots Love!!

Aloha Gail!
I hope you brought enough pop tarts, girl scout cookies, and candy to keep you going for your patient wait to summit. Enjoy your time on top of the world. Can’t wait to hear about your adventures!
Mucho Aloha,
Cori

Hola Guapo,
We are not sure you are getting these messages? I suppose it would be unrealistic to have all the climbers sending messages to the teams families daily via the guides…that alone would be a full time job! but if you are…..Maya and I are going to pray to the sky gods tonight for clear skies and minimal snow tomorrow.
better get home soon..we are spending too much money!! (maybe that will work?)
Lotsa Love!

Hi Tommy! I hope you are having an awesome day! I just wanted to say “hi”. It would be great if you could leave a message, no matter how short. I have no doubts that you are well and making the best of this down time. Praying for a break in the weather and an all clear to summit! Sending lots of love your way!

Good morning, Tommy….It’s very early morning where you are, but I woke up, anxious to find any news on whether you made the summit yesterday. I’m sorry the weather is not cooperating. Please know that I am with you as you wait out this bump on the way to the top. I know you are strong, I am strong, we are strong together! You are blessed to have this opportunity to live your dreams; this being one of many. I just informed everyone on Facebook where everything stands. I hope you are able to feel their support, most especially mine. I am writing to you everyday. It helps me when I’m missing you too much. Remember all the texts I saved from October 3, 2011, I am writing them in a journal, and it is has been so awesome to have your words right now since I can’t talk to you. I pray that these messages I leave you give you comfort in knowing we are well here, with the exception of missing you terribly. I have asked everyone to pray for the weather to move out and give you an opportunity to summit. You are in my heart, my prayers, and my thoughts every minute of the day. Love always!
