Mount Everest South Col Route (29,035’) Rainier Mountaineering, Inc. (RMI) is excited to offer a fully supported ascent of Mount Everest in the spring of 2008. The expedition will be led by tenured RMI guide and Everest veteran Casey Grom, and will feature an exclusive small team with a high climber to guide ratio. Rainier Mountaineering, Inc. lays the groundwork for your Everest Expedition by merging our trusted guiding services with the outfitting expertise of International Mountain Guides (IMG). Unlike other outfitters who simply offer logistical support on an Everest climb, our expedition is a fully guided ascent with a three climber to one RMI guide ratio. We believe this directly increases your margins of safety and chances of standing on top of the world’s highest mountain. When you weigh your Everest choices, consider the many advantages in experience, safety, and comfort of an RMI/IMG trip. EXPERIENCE Rainier Mountaineering, Inc., one of America’s oldest and most-trusted guide services, is the largest guide service on Mount Rainier and Mount McKinley, and leads guided climbs and treks around the globe. The company, owned and operated by Lou and Peter Whittaker, is staffed by experienced guides, more than 35 of whom have reached the summit of Mount Everest; some, multiple times. International Mountain Guides is recognized as a world leader in providing logistics and infrastructure on Everest. Since 1991, IMG has assisted 130 climbers in reaching the summit of Mount Everest.SAFETY Our climber-to-guide ratio will be 3:1, and our Sherpa-to-climber ratio is 1:1. This unusual degree of personal service from both guide and Sherpa staff dramatically improves safety and your chance for success. We work with an extremely experienced team of high altitude Sherpas: experience and local knowledge are invaluable in the mountains and especially so on Mt. Everest. We have dedicated medical tents at Base Camp (BC) and Advanced Base Camp (ABC), both equipped with Gamow hyperbaric bags and comprehensive medical kits. We supply an abundance of climbing oxygen which is provided as follows: 1800L at C3, 3600L at the Col, and 1800L at the Balcony. Solar power at Base Camp keeps us connected to home via high speed internet, can charge personal computers and other electronic devices, and allows us to maintain excellent emergency contact with the outside world. We are provided up to the minute information from a weather forecasting service for safer, more successful decision making. COMFORT RMI, in conjunction with IMG, provides the highest quality food and Base Camp facilities for keeping our spirits elevated and health in order. Our groups don’t suffer the physical deterioration seen in many Everest teams. Professional, experienced cooks adhere to high hygiene standards. We supply fresh vegetables and a diverse menu. Hot showers at BC are also provided. If it has a beneficial effect on morale, then we have thought about it, right down to our private toilet tent. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE Participants on our Mount Everest Expedition must have a solid understanding of mountaineering skills. We also require that each team member have previous high altitude experience, such as McKinley, Aconcagua, Cho Oyu or other 7,000 or 8,000 meter peaks. Screening and final selection will be done on an individual basis after we have reviewed your climbing resume and our veteran Everest guide has spoken with you directly. CONCLUSION This Everest expedition could well be the biggest adventure and most serious undertaking of your life. We would ask that you consider the above points very carefully before making your final choice of guide service. We are offering a high level of service, providing you with top-quality, experienced guides, and have an infrastructure that is entirely geared toward your safety and success. Quite simply, the RMI/IMG team is the best there is.
